Fics like The Nouveaux Kingdom

Through the machinations of Cora and Rumplestiltskin, Regina’s True Love was killed. Even worse, Regina’s mother forced her to watch how they died. The trauma of that loss was so profound, so shattering, that it set her on a path that would ultimately lead her to becoming the Evil Queen and casting the curse that created Storybrooke. But unbeknownst to Regina, things are not as they seem… To most, the Evil Queen’s story appeared simple because few cared enough to wonder how she became the way she is. It was easy to assume she lost someone, perhaps a lover, and that her bitterness consumed her. While that isn’t entirely untrue, the reality is far more complex. Regina’s long-lost love is not some stable boy with whom she shared a fleeting dalliance. Her True Love is a queen in her own right. A queen who just so happens to be the one of, if not, the only person that both Cora and Rumplestiltskin fear. And they fear her for very good reasons.
