Childe, a world-class professional runner, is reeling from a diagnosis with a terminal heart condition. Stuck in bed with a failing heart, he can’t run, travel, or do anything that gave him purpose before. His career and life appear to be over. To help him adjust, the doctors prescribe Childe virtual reality therapy. He doesn’t expect much to come of it until he meets a mysterious fellow patient, Zhongli. Together they explore the virtual world called Celestia and each other. And Childe starts to wonder: Can love make a short, bedridden life worth living? Can they find meaning in virtual reality when they’ve lost everything in the outside world? But falling in love comes with the bitter price that Childe, once again, has nowhere to run—from his feelings or himself.
