So if he didn’t bring a guest, he’d be stuck at a table with Keeley and her new girlfriend, Ted with Sassy, and Rebecca. Rebecca and Sassy were okay—except in a show of solidarity with Keeley, Rebecca didn’t really talk to him anymore and Sassy was a bit much after a few drinks. He couldn’t imagine spending the entire night with that group and staying sane. Plus, showing up without a date gave the impression that he hadn’t moved on yet. Normally, he didn’t give a fuck about what impression he gave, but he didn’t want to look like the fucking pathetic, lonely wanker that he was. He couldn’t think of anybody he could invite—or would even want to invite—but there was one person who would probably find it just as tedious and awkward. And, even better, Roy could make him go. (Or Roy will take any excuse to ask Jamie on a date even though he's not ready to admit to himself if he wants to go on a date with Jamie)
