Fics like The Question of Afterward

“After we stop it,” Peter repeats, “What next?” He’s spent the last week moving from fight to fight, tracking down conspiracy threads and running on fumes. He hasn’t stopped to think about what happens when it’s over. The thought leaves a bitter taste in his mouth. His career is over. The idea of going back to his empty apartment where Zoe’s ghost somberly hangs over him, reminding him that he wasn’t good enough is unpleasant to say the least. There’s nothing tying him down here, nothing worth keeping. Nothing, aside from Rose. They’ve gotten close to the point where Peter feels like he’s known her for a lot longer than a week. Her presence fills a gaping, aching hole inside of him. Peter doesn’t want to let her go. He knows that sleeping together once and kissing a few times doesn’t make a relationship - especially in a high stress situation - but he wants that, desperately.
