Fics like Broken Minds, Broken Hearts

Light Yagami was on the fast track to success until he accidentally killed two men with a Death Note dropped by a rogue shinigami. The awful realization caused a tragedy in the making as he desperately tried to justify and rationalize what he'd done in order to cope. He became a serial killer known as Kira. When L, the world's greatest detective, took on his case, he thought the mysterious man was just another obstacle in the way of the delusional lies he told himself to keep going. He certainly did not expect to fall in love with L during a daring memory gambit. As L closes in on him, Light struggles with his feelings, his actions, and his spiraling mental health. A retelling of Death Note that diverges from canon.
