Fics like From my festering body flowers shall rise

Chu Wanning is the victim of a strange affliction. The cure is impossible for him to consider. The memory of those days that could never return- of his disciple that would never return- increases the strange feeling in his chest, and before Chu Wanning can catch his breath, a sickening cough tears out from between his lips, and the strange taste grows in intensity. Chu Wanning realizes that it is the taste of blood mingled with something else, something floral that is strange and foreign to sense coming from within his own body, and he finds himself bent over his qin, coughing up blood. There he sees it for the first time, laid out on the strings and covered in the blood he had just expelled from his body. A petal. The fresh blood that covers it makes it hard to decipher its colors, tainting it with a shocking red gloss, but as Chu Wanning carefully picks it up between trembling fingers, he realizes that it’s white, with a faint touch of pink- a haitang petal. The sick dread in the pit of his stomach tells him that it came from his own body. And he knows, somehow, that it heralds his own death.
