Fics like you're not such an easy target

Two years ago, before everything, so many things, it had been him and Nancy and Tommy and Carol and Barb and beer and cigarettes and a boombox. It had been a starry night and a cloudless sky and a cut hand and then the first time he’d ever made love. Two years ago he’d have called himself sappy. He would have called himself cool. He would have called himself not a coward. Today, his usually empty house is filled to bursting with friends and food and a scary movie marathon and it feels like nothing’s changed since Starcourt exploded and burned down from a faulty gas line. Today, Steve calls himself lonely.
