Fics like the end of the line

On November 23rd, 2004, Light Yagami, age eighteen, pled guilty to over one hundred thousand counts of murder under the alias of Kira. His trial set unprecedented history as the first ever, and likely the last ever, to include non-human entities as key witnesses. Notably, the shinigami Ryuk agreed to testify on Light Yagami’s behalf for quote, “entertainment and a favor to a longtime friend”. Many officers of the law from across the globe have stated that it is a miracle he was even granted a trial in the first place, as there was overwhelming evidence of his crimes, and due to the scale of his trangressions, it was very likely that he would have been simply executed quietly. However, the court seemingly intended to make an example out of him, that even the great and elusive Kira could be captured. As most monumental government decisions do, it backfired.
