Fics like Another Mother's Love
"Albus Dumbledore believes he knows everything, and that his will is absolute. Everybody has a line in which they will not cross, and will not bend. This is my line, Severus. Leaving a child to be neglected and hated for his entire childhood on purpose is pushing me too far. Harry Potter deserves a good childhood, one without people fawning over him and one without fame, but also without suffering. I intend to give him that." TLDR: McGonagall knows the Dursley aren't fit to raise Harry Potter, and decides she must do it herself.
