Fics like The Day Before the Soldiers Came

(Set between X1 and X2) Logan travels North to try and chase down details of his missing memories, keeping in contact with the School by mobile phone, and he and Scott strike up an awkward friendship via text message. Back at the School, Scott is concerned when Logan doesn’t text back after a week of no contact, and goes to try and find him. They both get more than they bargained for.
