Fics like Chapter 141: A (Long) Journey to Return

Kvothe's hands mean everything to him (as is evident from how much he talks about his own hands. We get it your fingers are long) While sailing back to the university from Alverons estate, he looses his left hand to pirates. He returns to the university with his grief, having lost not only a limb but his music. He finds hope in the possibility of creating a prosthetic replacement with the combined resources of the Medica and Artificery. As the fall changes to winter and Kvothe works on his prosthetic, he falls back on the support of his friends, and finds himself growing closer and closer to Willem. Gay sparring matches and drunken tomfoolery ensue.
