Fics like Midas

King Midas was a man of great fortune. Fate favoured him and more; his heart’s greatest desire would be granted to him. Everything he touched turned to gold! But, alas, his triumph became a curse! His ruthless, single-minded pursuit cost him his daughter, trapped in gold! There is a second part to this story, oft forgotten: Midas atoned, and his daughter was returned to him, his flesh and blood once more, to be folded into loving arms, now his heart’s most cherished. Then, happiness, gratitude, the love of living, breathing treasures, and the pursuit of a better life on Earth replaced the endless, relentless quest for coldest gold and impossible castles in the sky. In other words, the golden monkey reaches out to Lyra, and the world changes.
