Fics like Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

Negan embodied the missing puzzle piece of Carl’s high school life; kindness, approachability, companionship, and the wisdom of someone who wanted the best for Carl. He was a genuine friend; uncensored, honest, and he could be a royal pain in the ass, but Carl needed him as much as he needed oxygen. After the apocalypse, Carl resigned to never seeing Negan again. The survival part of his brain all but erased the Negan part. He barely thought about him. That is, until that one fateful day kneeling in the clearing lit up by the blinding beams of enemy trucks, awaiting his fate. They were a great team before; how will they face new threats together after three years apart?
