The problem was that the forest had fallen eerily silent just as he watched a tree trunk move. All too late, he realized that it was not a tree, but a spindly leg that stretched high into the canopy. It was built of sinuous muscle that flexed with each heavy step. It shook the very earth as he looked high above the trees - and wished that he hadn’t. He couldn’t even begin to describe what he was looking at. Its bones constantly popped in and out of place, as though the towering creature that kissed the clouds above hadn’t yet decided on the skin it settled itself within. It had a long, hairless snout with lips that peeled all the way back to reveal horselike teeth. Its lower jaw hung perpetually open, and snapped to and fro with each thunderous step it took. What crawled its way from his grave was less than human as it donned a man's skin in masquerading attire.
