And he laughs at first, at the sleepy, pouty-lipped little shape of her as she shuffles over to him and climbs into his lap and grumbles until he wraps her up into his arms. “I was working,” he chides softly, but when he ducks his head to press his mouth to her forehead, her skin is flushed and sticky with heat. And it’s there, he finds it, understands it— can’t ignore it— a sickly-sweet smell just under the familiar smell of his baby. That cloying, clinging scent that lingers in the heat he chases along her cheek, something hot and syrupy, made more of a feeling than a real scent. (A pooling thing, like a slow drip along his spine, a slow drip in his stomach, something molten, sugared, full of need and hunger.) Or, the nicoellie abo.
