Fics like the drum is dead (long live the drum)

“R,” Julie calls. He looks back at her over his shoulder, all bright blue eyes and messy hair. His eyes are half-closed like he's tired, and he probably is, knowing him. The sun and his nightmares make him sleepy. “Yeah?” “I love you.” He smiles at her softly, and his face gets a little pink, and he ducks his head and laughs quietly to himself, and god, he’s so fucking alive. “I love you too,” he says, and she knows he means it. He turns his attention back to the sunset, so totally content just watching and living. She loves him. She’s never felt like this in her life. he was a corpse smearing blood on her face after he'd just eaten her boyfriend. now, she's pretty confident he's the love of her life, and she would do anything to keep this forever. the apocalypse has led julie to some strange fucking places.
