Fics like Heaven Shall Never Call Our Name

Jason slumped forward. “I just... I wanna see my brother again, y'know?” he admitted, dimly noting he was chewing on his thumbnail. “I dunno if he’d still like me, though. I’ve broken, like, a lot of his rules.” Goldie’s hand returned to his shoulder as the other flashed a few quick signs. I do. He tapped Jason’s chest and flashed another. I’m proud of you. Jason laughed. It was a wet thing, loud among the empty rooftop. “Well, it’s good you’re not him, right?” An odd look, something Jason couldn’t name, crossed Goldie’s face for a moment. Then, that hand ran across his shoulders, pulling him into a side hug, as the other rounded up to ruffle his hair. ~ Weeks, months, hell, a year pass since Dick Grayson's disappearance, and Jason begins to wonder, sitting on that rooftop next a mute, bronze-clad mercenary, and a greasy bag full of Batburger fries, if he'll ever come home. Renegade is stuck living what can only be described to be his worst life, but at least he can check in on his little brother from time to time, even if it breaks his heart that he can't be the big brother Jason seeks.
