Fics like All the Honorable Wounds

Julius and Marcus Norreys are the best jaeger pilots the world has ever seen, until a devastating battle leaves Marcus dead and Julius a wreck. Five years later, Julius is a brittle shadow of who he used to be: haunted not just by the loss of his twin, but the loss of himself. Harry Vane lost his parents in a kaiju attack, and he needs to make their deaths count for something—except his overlarge, overprotective cousin, Marshal Richard Vane, won't let him join the Jaeger Academy. He needs help proving he has what it takes to become a ranger, and he knows just the man to ask for help. Come for the giant robot battles; stay for the explorations of trauma and grief. NOTE: You can absolutely read this fic not knowing anything about Pacific Rim other than the memes/basic premise, to wit: the world is being invaded by 300-foot-tall monsters called kaiju, and humankind did the sane and plausible thing by building 300-foot-tall mechs that require the pilots to engage in an intense and all-encompassing mind-meld. This is a cool move that has resulted in zero problems for anyone.
