Fics like freedom!

(spiritfarer!au) Maya is chosen by Charon—the Spiritfarer—to take over their position. Taking wandering spirits in and fulfilling their desires before they are ready to travel through the EverDoor, proceeding into their next life, Maya searches for the one thing she doesn’t understand, nor will she believe to ever know. Along the way, she finds a lone spirit on the streets of Tokyo, who she has to bring a bouquet of marigolds to before she agrees to join Maya aboard her ship. Then, she learns of her name: Claudine. Saijō Claudine, the famous French actress, who had committed suicide at the peak of her career.
