The first time David finds Brad hunched over a toilet bowl puking his guts out, it’s at the launch party for Raven’s Banquet, in one of the office bathrooms. He doesn’t think too much of it that time, figuring Brad had just had too much to drink. He gets him a glass of water, squatting down next to him and rubbing his back as he gulps the water down. They sit in silence for a moment, and it occurs to David that this is the most vulnerable he’s ever seen Brad. It feels a bit wrong, but also a bit nice. His sweater is soft against David’s hand, and Brad’s eyes are closed, and it’s almost peaceful, being alone with him like this. Then Brad pushes his arm away and tells him to fuck off and the moment is gone. It doesn’t strike him as odd until it happens again, at David’s own house.
