Arthur doesn’t think about it, because it's a weakness. The knights pat each other on the back, and sometimes they roughhouse for a bit. Arthur is above that, and he only does it when he really wants to cheer up one of his men. That’s initially what he wants to do to Merlin, too, when his idiot of a manservant’s face droops and he can’t quite make his smile meet his eyes. But he doesn’t, because the thought of touching Merlin—his lungs constrict, and there’s no reason for him to be touching Merlin, no excuse that would make it proper. Touching Merlin would be because Arthur wants to, and he shouldn’t. Or: Five times Arthur is a touch-deprived mess who really wishes he could touch Merlin without an excuse, and one time he learns he doesn't need one.
