Three things then happen in short succession: 1) Barnaby realizes what he just blurted out and matches Kotetsu’s wide-eyed stare with his own frenzied gaze. 2) Kotetsu’s grip on his wine glass slackens and drops it, where it rolls off the table to fall to the floor, the glass breaking into pieces and spilling wine all over Kotetsu’s dining room table and floor. 3) Desperate to cling to any life preserver to save himself from the deadly riptide he's caught himself in by his impromptu confession, Barnaby shoots to his feet, eyes fixed on the spill. "That's going to stain!" he shouts, much too loud, and even as Kotetsu begins to mumble some sort of excuse, Barnaby is running to Kotetsu’s bathroom for a towel and definitely, definitely isn't thinking about how he just ruined everything. ----- On August 14th, 1980, Barnaby Brooks Jr. kisses Kotetsu T. Kaburagi for the first time.
