Fics like My Brilliant Friend

"We need more funding for the department, Oak.” The department head looked over at him with an honest, desperate expression. “This seems like a perfect opportunity to get it." “Everyone knows about the rivalry between you two,” Tracey chimed in. “It’d be a sold out match.” Gary wanted to scream - or cry, or laugh hysterically. Maybe all three. Battling? After all these years? He hadn’t so much as crossed a battle threshold since he was fifteen. He wasn’t sure he was even still capable of it, if his once well-trained, disciplined team would even listen to him anymore. Besides, he hated barking out orders to them, making split second decisions that would cost dearly or pay off completely depending on the circumstances. He wasn’t interested in theory, strategy, move sets. Maybe when he was a child, but not anymore. Not since Ash left in the first place. ___ A shigesato AU in which Associate Professor Gary Oak is forced to rekindle his old rivalry with famous trainer Ash Ketchum - dredging up feelings he doesn't want to deal with.
