Fics like The Transformation of Things

"I saw him." Riku closed his hand into a fist. "I mean, I heard him. He's alive. Somewhere out there. But..." "But what?" Riku hesitated. For a moment he could pretend that it wasn't true--that saying it out loud would make it true. As if he hadn't known the truth the moment Sora's hand had touched him in the darkness. "He doesn't know who I am." Sora vanishes. Years pass. Life goes on for everyone, it seems, except Riku. He's stuck in the past--literally--reliving memories that could prove be the keys to finding Sora. Just one problem: dream-Sora can't seem to remember him. What do you do when the person you live for vanishes, leaving behind friends that aren't yours, dreams that eat you instead of the other way around, and a single dusty shirt?
