Fics like Stuck in the Past (and hoping for a future)

Maverick felt the jolt of the impact the instant it happened, his body feeling it as well as his helmet slammed into the console in front of him. He tried to suck in a breath but all he got was the acrid taste of smoke and no oxygen, even as fresh air streamed past his failing jet far too fast for him to register, not like this. He managed to look forward and see the ground coming at him far, far too fast through blurred vision. It was too late to eject, and there was nothing else he could do to try and ease the landing. He gasped, heard another F-18 roar overhead and thought oh fuck right before he slammed nose-first into the tree line. - Mav gets a little more injured than in canon and has to fight his way back to the ship with Rooster while simultaneously refusing to let on just how much he hurts. Bonus fluff at the end <3
