“I’ve got you,” Cas says, and it pings at something in Dean. A long forgotten memory. His mother’s voice asking his father, “You got him?” Dean is four and held up in his father’s arms. And John Winchester says, “I got him.” Like it’s a given. Like, of course he always will have him, safe and sure in his embrace. Dean snuggles closer, wraps small arms around his father’s large shoulders. It’s the last time he hears his mother’s voice. It’s the last time his father holds him close. Dean loses his home on a day in early November. Twice. - or, losing Cas triggers memories of the fire. Time slips strangely around Dean as he navigates two loses and longs for a comforting embrace.
