Fics like Cloaked in the Garments of Rats

“You really won’t talk, will you?” “I…I said…everything…already…you just won’t…hear me…” The man knelt down, becoming level with Jean, and he gently grasped his chin. Jean’s partially closed eyes met his when he lifted it. “I think you should really put some thought into it,” he suggested in a slow, imploring tone. “And have a different answer when I come back for you.” - Jean and Armin are captured by a Marleyan squadron under suspicion of Restorationist activity. They each endure a different form of torture and are changed forever by this short, traumatic event. It forces their friendship to evolve, their behavior to incite concern from their team, and for them to realize that if they're going to come away from this shared experience, they'll need to do so together. Jearmin fans: you barely even need to squint for this to be pre-slash. I love intimate friendships and that's how I've written this.
