Fics like And I Held My Breath (Though The Water Was Shallow)

Owen licks his lips, searching for something to say. Curt's probably thirsty, he decides. "Do you want me to get you some water, love?" Curt eyes flicker up again. He opens his mouth a bit like he's about to reply, then shakes his head quickly, ducking his head back down. Owen resists the urge to sigh. Clearly, the answer was yes, at least at first. But then, it changed to no for some reason, and Owen doesn't know why, doesn't know what these fuckers have done to him that the idea of drinking water is something unsafe, and he can't even ask Curt, because whatever they did has made Curt terrified to even speak- Owen shuts his eyes, forcing himself to breathe. The most important thing right now is to keep Curt feeling as comfortable and safe as he can, and if Owen gets upset or angry, it's just going to scare Curt worse. He needs to breathe. Or, Owen helps Curt feel at home again. Title taken from Pearls by Katie Kuffel.
