Lecter’s gaze doesn’t move from his sleeve. “They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. Tell me, Will: would you consider that an accurate assessment?” Will thinks of how it feels to look, how it feels to come back to himself, and he shakes his head. “No,” he says after a moment. “It’s a hell of a lot more violent than that.” Will sees things in people’s eyes, so he doesn’t look unless he has to. And then, one day, he accidentally looks a lot. When he recovers from the shock of it all, he realizes that the person he got a glimpse of is… unique, and for the first time, Will wants to see more. Luckily for him, Hannibal is just as eager to be seen.
