Fics like Balance of Power: Equality

Back on Air Temple Island, Korra found herself patiently ignoring an unusually long-winded lecture from Tenzin as soon as she stepped off the dock. Something about kidnapping his daughter, apparently. She passed the time by studying the veins on his scalp, which were protruding rather impressively. It always amazed Korra how a man on a vegetarian diet who spent most of his free time meditating could have such high blood pressure. Such were the dangers of having children, she supposed. Her musings ended abruptly when she realized Tenzin had stopped talking. “Well?” he demanded, implying he had asked a question at some point. It had completely escaped Korra, so clearly the safest course of action was to get defensive and try to deflect. “I’m sorry, okay? I just want to do some good in this city, but there are all these rules telling me I can’t. Why are all the good jobs on the police force only for benders, anyway?” - Wherein Korra doesn't know she's the Avatar, but gets thrown into the deep end anyway.
