The term “brand spanking new” means to leave a permanent mark of ownership or a brand on something that has been restored through tender, loving care. In hopes he’ll return home brand spanking new, Mickey’s siblings, who are fed up with his “failure to launch,” arrange for him to spend some time at a discipline-centered retreat that specializes in punishing bad behavior. Excerpt: “You were at Terry’s mercy for years,” Mandy continued like he wasn’t dying from shame and humiliation. “We knew you were gay, and we knew dad was making your life hell, but we all had our own shit going on. When Dad died, we thought it would set you free but you’re…stuck, Mick.” “We’re at the end of our rope, so rather than use it to strangle you, we’re taking action.” "Men really respond to a firm hand.” She had the good sense not to look Mickey in the eye as she spoke. “It motivates them to behave better. Some men find it reassuring to know they will be punished for their bad behavior. Some men even find it helps them let go of” –she glanced quickly at him– “their burdens.” POSTING SCHEDULE: DAILY
