Fics like the hand we've been dealt

He’d always tried to keep – his boys, as she’d put it – out of the firing line, as much as he could. With Shazam, that wasn’t an option. You put him directly in the line of fire or you didn’t use him. More than once he'd seen Shazam take hits for his teammates that would have killed anyone mortal. It didn’t do him any harm – any physical harm – but he was fourteen. He shouldn’t have to use his own body to protect people. But this was the hand they had been dealt. All they could do was make the best of it. Batman reflects on Shazam.
