Hinata and his team line up and the referee goes into position. His friends shoot him worried looks, and he smiles what he hopes is a reassuring smile. This is a dream. It’s okay. All is good. “Players, line up! Face the net!” Hinata finally turns to face their opponents. His heart thuds out of his chest. There, standing tall and grumpy and young, is Kageyama. Tears fall down Hinata’s cheeks. (On his way back to Japan from Brazil, Hinata dies from a plane crash. He can’t accept this. The volleyball gods can’t accept this. So his soul time travels to the past.)
