Fics like Brave Together

“Well, I don’t care what he told you. I’m going to help Brenda and neither of you can stop me. If I have to go alone, that’s fine. But Brenda was always there for me, and now I want to be there for her.” She’s expecting some form of argument. Some kind of fork in the road that’ll send Olive off on her own while Hal and Azure try and fail to convince her otherwise. Something like, “it’s too dangerous, we can’t afford to lose you too”, because that’s a phrase she’s heard and had to say countless times during missions. Olive knows exactly how this scenario will play out. Because she’s been on the safe side of the bridge, and now she’s on the far side. The side that bodes danger. It never comes. Whatever form of discouragement she’s anticipating never leaves Azure’s lips, nor does it come crackling in from Hal through Azure’s radio. There’s just silence. Then, Azure smiles, that small, sweet smile that she gives to helpless civilians, and she rests a gentle hand on Olive’s shoulder. “I’m with you,” she promises. “Don’t worry.”
