Fics like Running with Knives

On his last tour in Afghanistan, Sam is sent on a mission with an external contractor, an aggravating and secretive man named James Barnes. The fact that the mission goes completely FUBAR is in no way helped by him hooking up with Barnes afterwards, though at least he can comfort himself with the fact that he won’t ever have to see him again. Almost thirty years after escaping HYDRA, Bucky is still in survival mode, avoiding any real connections with other people as he tries his best to keep existing in the aftermath of what was done to him. Sam Wilson should be just another in a long string of meaningless hookups, someone he will never see again. But when has anything in either of their lives ever been that simple?
