Fics like A Steady Stream of Salt
When Izuku pushed his way out the front door of the 1-A dorm building, he wasn’t expecting anything from his afternoon other than a pleasant visit at home with his mother. Maybe he would be lucky enough to catch a sighting of heroes out on patrol or treat himself to a bubble tea. Or maybe, if he was feeling particularly whole and brave, he’d finally walk by his old school and make rude gestures at the ugly, utilitarian building like he’d always secretly longed to do. But when he got home, there was no comfort in the familiar stubby fingers that were so like his own. This time when he reached out to her, his mother didn’t squeeze his hand in return. Her hand didn’t reach to push his bangs out of his eyes while scolding him for needing a haircut, and her fingers weren't tapping along to the beat of a song in her head because they couldn’t. Because his mother, impossible though it seemed, was dead.
