Fics like The Limitations of Operant Conditioning

After Morty gives in to his incestuous desires and comes on to Rick in the living room one night, things change. Though Rick never brings the incident up again, he begins acting strangely from that night on. It's up to Morty to figure out what's going on with him, and to set things right again. Written for the Rick and Morty Secret Santa 2021 Event! Excerpt: “Are you ok, Rick?” “Not even a little bit. It’s not working.” “What’s not working? Rick?” Morty was starting to get worried. Rick rubbed his forehead and laughed madly. “The conditioning. I mean, I’m here, aren’t I?” Morty didn’t understand at all. Rick took his hand and cupped it to his cheek, closing his eyes and sighing through his nose. “Worth it.” “Wh-wh…” Morty was so shocked that he couldn’t even come up with any words. All he could do was breathe through his nose, rapid puffs in and out as he tried to rationalize what was happening to him. It couldn’t be what it looked like. It couldn’t be his grandfather cuddling up to him like a lover. He had to be misreading things. Wishful thinking. Self-fulfilling fantasy.
