Derek’s desperate to catch Stiles’ scent. He wonders if it will be dark and earthy, crackling with the fire of his spirit, or sweet with the promise of those honeyed eyes and lush mouth. He tells himself it is a normal curiosity that makes him seek the answer, and nothing else. Derek sniffs, his nostrils flaring as he tries to hold back his greedy gulps, then nearly recoils in shock. Because Stiles smells... well, unobtrusive. Abnormally so. Even betas have a unique scent, although one typically less distinct than those of alphas or omegas. It’s as if his scent has been erased, with only the ghost of its existence beneath his skin.
