Fics like Fear of Falling

Nicholas Benedict was well-aware of the number of sharp objects he kept in his house. He was also aware of the possibility of injury that came from the combination of these objects and his condition, but in his opinion, there was always some possibility of injury just from existing in the world, narcolepsy or not. He had made it this far in his life, almost fifty years old, and the few incidents at St. Jorge’s castle and Rothchild’s End aside, he had avoided anything truly dangerous happening to him related to his narcolepsy. In other words, Nicholas wasn’t concerned by what he considered the unlikely prospect of injuring himself on any of the hard edges or sharp objects in his study. Overall, he had things as well in hand as he ever had, and his mind was on other things as he paced his study on a cool spring day, attempting to solve the puzzle of how someone could broadcast thoughts into another’s mind without those thoughts being detected. Or: "If I dropped off while pacing and brained myself against a bookcase, Number Two would never let me hear the end of it."
