Fics like Rip-Tide

There was a slow rain bouncing off the windscreen Jimmy’s car. Duncan rested his head against the passenger window, and remembered another journey in the rain, another murder inquiry, another time when he had sat in an interview room at the station and answered questions and drowned in Jimmy’s disappointed eyes. That time he’d been innocent, for what that was worth. But he’d been selfish and cowardly and he’d lied. This time… he didn’t know what he was. Not innocent. But he didn’t think that he’d done what he’d done for himself. And he wouldn’t lie to Jimmy, not again. Not ever. He noticed they had stopped when Jimmy opened his door. “We’re home,” he said, and his voice was coming from so far away. “Let’s get you inside.”
