Fics like Only Connect

"What had happened that night remained unknown to me, but at the end of it, Mr. Hall was gorgeous, and the thought of us standing in the rain together was dreamy and glorious. I felt close to him. In that rainy evening, we seemed to share something. He didn't see me, but I hoped he had sensed my existence in the rain. And I hoped he felt better for it." In the 1910's in England, a young gamekeeper caught sight of who he thought was the most gorgeous man ever laid foot in Pendersleigh Park. He kept watching him to the most exhaustive detail, and slowly built connection with him. A tribute to E.M. Forster's motto "Only connect". A plot filling fic for Maurice (the film, 1987). The last few chapters of Maurice from Alec Scudder's perspective.
