Fics like The fragility of foam

He hated it here. At first, he’d thought that he’d gotten lucky when the humans had freed him from the net instead of killing him, but then they started poking and prodding at his agonising wound on his tail, started gabbing about keeping him for ‘observation’, and the next thing he knew, there’d been a sharp prick in his tail, and he’d woken up next to the tiny tank, a human sitting next to him waiting to watch him swim for a while to make sure he wouldn’t drown. It was the same human every time, there were a few others that accompanied him, but the large, dark haired human was always the one talking to him, gently prodding his tail and asking him what hurt and where. or Jason is a mer who gets rescued by the gotham mer sanctuary. He learns that maybe he isn't so alone after all.
