Fics like Teflon Memories

When Tim will try to remember this day, after this day, there will be blanks. Like the day Mitch lost his leg. Like the first time a civilian died in front of him. Like that one particularly bad time with his dad. There wasn’t a pattern to what stayed and what went, he had learned. Some things, the brain clung to, even if he would rather forget them. Other things, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t recall. So he doesn’t remember, after this day, what he and Chen were talking about in the shop as they rolled up to the scene. He doesn’t remember arriving after the suspect had already been secured, so they thought, or turning back to the shop. Angela has had to tell him about how she called out “gun!” when the suspect they thought was secure reached for a weapon they hadn’t realized he had on him. He and Lucy fit their patchwork memories together, like the worst kind of puzzle pieces, and so she’s the one who tells him about how they both drew their weapons as the first shot rang out. OR Lucy gets shot on duty and Tim does *not* take it well.
