Fics like thousands of breathless evermores

She couldn’t possibly be one of them, she thinks, because that would mean being like Mary Poppins. And she wasn’t anything like Mary Poppins. But still, she shows up at Mary Poppins’ door in the early hours of the morning—when all the house is asleep, but she. And she knocks. And Mary Poppins opens the door—properly dressed for the day, and prim and poised. “Good morning, Mrs. Banks,” Mary Poppins says. Winifred’s mind is reeling, and all she manages to blurt is— “I want you to teach me.” [Magical Winifred? Oh, the possibilities!]
