Fics like where the fields are painted gold

Gong Jun is six, too-short before his growth spurt, too-concerned about his own future, when nainai feeds him a dumpling, sits him down into her lap, and tells him that he’s not going to be an ordinary boy. “Not ordinary at all,” she says, with a proud hum. His cooking, she says, will become a powerful thing. His cooking, she warns, can make people feel, more than any ordinary food ever could. He’s twelve when he starts getting bullied over his magic — by nobody but other magical kids, who see him floundering in self-defense classes and laugh at his gangly limbs. He’s twelve when he gets cornered, one afternoon, by the kid who can conjure up fire at the snap of his fingers. And he’s twelve when he meets Zhehan. OR: Gong Jun's food can affect people's feelings. Zhehan's touch can make people tell the truth. They meet at magical school, grow up together, and fall in love. Other things happen, too.
