Fics like fragile, broken things

“It’s just—“ Wen Kexing takes a deep breath, “I never thought you would leave me behind like that. Abandon me, like old footprints.” Zhou Zishu feels a lump in his throat that might be guilt. He sits there for a long time before speaking. “Well,” he says, and when the words finally come out they don’t sound accusatory, just resigned. A simple statement of the facts. “I never thought you would lie to me like that. So I guess we were both wrong.” Wen Kexing's face goes unnaturally rigid—the way someone might look if they were trying very hard not to flinch. Or, some things, once broken, aren’t so easily mended.
