Fics like Born of Fire

“And if it hatches?” asks Phil. “It won’t,” says Wilbur, and he speaks with such conviction that it makes Phil’s eyebrows screw together in confusion. “You can’t know that,” he says. “Even if it’s been dormant for years, the minute it accepts someone-” Wil shakes his head and he shifts forward again so that he and Phil can speak quietly across the table without fear of being overheard. “It didn’t hatch for me. And I don’t intend to let anyone else try.” “Not even Tommy?” Phil glances over Wilbur’s shoulder one more time to the young boy laughing along with a few more tavern goers through an impromptu bar song. He’s the only one not holding a sloshing handle of ale, but Phil takes it as a sign of the country’s decency not to allow a minor to intoxicate himself, war-hero or no. “He has the temperament for it,” he tells Wilbur. -- In the midst of brewing unrest, an attempt to lend his son a helping hand lands Phil in possession of one of the most powerful creatures in the world, a living, breathing dragon. But despite his best efforts to keep Technoblade from the tangled webs of those who would seek to use him, the pair cannot escape falling into the orbit of fate.
