Fics like Musutafu's Newest Cryptid: Mothman

Legend has it that if children leave the lights on at night, Mothman will come and take them away, never to be seen again by anyone. The myth becomes a warning to kids who have a tendency to stay up at night, but a beacon to kids who are abused or in dangerous situations. Legend also has it that the Maiden will show up on the doorstep of those she deems worthy, holding a child that will be given to the new parents. She has never been wrong in her choices. Every child who is placed has a necklace with a moth charm on it around their neck, and they speak about how they were saved by Mothman. Legend also has it that the subway tunnels are a haven for kids on the rough side of life, homeless, abused or orphaned. If a kid manages to get through the maze, they will be welcomed into the arms of a community of other children, and find a new home through the Maiden. However, if an adult dares enter the tunnels, they will disappear, never to be seen again.
