Fics like the big sleep

Bëor was giving up everything to follow Finrod home, and he regretted nothing; there was no other choice. Elves didn’t do the kind of succession-planning that Men had to. Finrod had no one he could hand his crown to, no one in whose trust he could leave Nargothrond with perfect peace of mind, the way Bëor was able to hand his responsibilities onto Baran. It was just better for everyone, though, if Finrod didn’t find out about the family peculiarity.
