"He's gone, Kie. He's gone and John B and Sarah went with him and they're never coming back and I never even got to--" Pope can feel himself spiraling. The words clawing out of his throat don't feel like his own-- is he even speaking? Is Kie really there next to him? Or is she gone too, pulled to the bottom of the ocean with the rest of them, leaving Pope truly alone? He's about two seconds away from disappearing in the thick smog of his own despair when he feels a hand on his arm. "Pope...", Kie whispers, sounding fractured and empty and not right, not like Kie, like some shell of who she once was. Apparently she was saying something, because suddenly Pope was hearing her again. "--can't lose you too. Do you understand? We're all we have left. The two of us. You can't spiral, you can't freak, not now. We can't leave each other alone right now." --------------- Basically an AU where JJ realizes that stealing the Phantom was effectively signing his death warrant, and goes with John B and Sarah. He's presumed dead, and while the three of them fight for a safe way back to the others, Pope and Kie deal with their grief and regrets. JJPope endgame, I promise it has a happy ending y'all!!
